Pulled, Torn or Strained Muscles
A muscle pull, tear or strain is essentially the same thing; an over- stretch of the muscle causing damage to the fibres. It usually affects the larger leg muscles such as the hamstrings, quads and calf muscles or the lower back. The symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising and weakness depending on the severity and can be graded one, two or three.

What can Petersfield Physio do to help Pulled or Torn Muscles?

As with sprained joints, and ligament injuries we recommend the RICE regime – rest, ice, compression and elevation. We can also use ultrasound and interferential to improve circulation and speed up the healing process and K tape to support the damaged muscle. Soft tissue massage and stretches help to minimise scar tissue and ensure the muscle doesn’t shorten while strengthening exercises will restore full function and strength to the muscle.
