at Petersfield Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic

Sciatica is the term used for irritation of the sciatic nerve, which travels from the pelvis, down the legs to the feet.  Symptoms can include pain, pins and needles or numbness and muscle weakness. The most common cause of sciatica is a prolapsed or slipped disc but it can also be caused by inflammation of soft tissues, bony changes due to arthritis and, less commonly, tumours or infection.

What can Petersfield Physio do to help Sciatica?

Treatment is aimed at relieving pressure on the nerve. Techniques can include manual traction, McKenzie extension exercises, electrotherapy and treatments to the lower back, which is often the cause of sciatica.
