Whiplash

Whiplash
Whiplash is a term used for neck pain, often associated with car accidents, when the vehicle of the person involved is hit from behind at speed. Pain usually comes on gradually within a couple of days of the accident and can spread across the shoulders and into the arms. It is usually a soft tissue injury where the muscles and ligaments are overstretched causing inflammation, pain and stiffness.

What can Petersfield Physio do to help Whiplash?

It is important to keep the neck moving, even if it is painful, to prevent it from stiffening up. Heat and ice can relax tight muscles, we can use soft tissue massage, mobilisations and stretches to reduce pain and improve flexibility. We can teach you an exercise programme to help restore movement, strength and function in the neck.
