Servicesat Petersfield Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic
The Chinese have used acupuncture for thousands of years to treat many conditions from infertility, pain, menopause symptoms, skin conditions and everything in between. Traditional Chinese acupuncture is based on the belief that an energy, or “life force”, flows through the body in channels called meridians. This life force is known as Qi (pronounced “chee”). Traditional acupuncture practitioners believe that when energy does not flow freely it can cause pain or injury. They believe that acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi by stimulating it at certain points along the meridians and therefore restore health.
Who would like to look younger and more radiant without the potential side effects of Botox, expensive surgery and cupboards full of creams, lotions and potions that really don’t make much difference?
Cosmetic acupuncture for facial rejuvenation is the latest treatment in the anti-ageing war and the method of choice for many celebrities. It has increased in popularity recently due to a desire for more natural treatments and a fear of Botox. People are more reluctant to inject sausage poison into their face!
Mick Dawson is the personal trainer at Petersfield Physio. He is a fitness professional who can devise a personalised exercise programme based on his client’s needs and expectations combined with instruction to carry out the exercises.
He motivates his clients by setting goals and providing feedback and accountability. He also measures his client’s strengths and weaknesses with fitness assessments, which monitor improvements in physical fitness.
Mick can also educate his clients in many other aspects of wellness besides exercise, including general health and nutrition guidelines. He can combine training sessions with our nutrition expert Natasha Gladki in our Weight Loss Package
Sports Massage Therapy
Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons.
At Petersfield Physio, a sports massage is often used to complement physiotherapy treatment from Gerry or Ed. Mick Dawson is our highly experienced Sports massage Therapist.
There are four types of sports massage:
Pre-event massage — a short, stimulating massage 15 – 45 minutes before the event. It is directed toward the parts of the body that will be involved in the exertion.
Post-event massage — given within an hour or two of the event, to normalize the body’s tissues.
Restorative massage — given during training to allow the athlete to train harder and with less injury.
Rehabilitative massage — aimed at alleviating pain due to injury and returning the body to health.
You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage. It is also beneficial for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted movement. During the massage, Mick would generally concentrate on a specific problem area.
A Sports Massage is not for the faint-hearted! However, the benefits of increased circulation, release of tension and improved range of movement far outweigh the temporary discomfort.
Pilates – We offer 1-2-1 sessions and small classes to allow individual personal attention.
